VS2 and NAC-SRCC announces merger to create the largest, single class, amateur-racing organization in the United States.

New bylaws and technical rules under tab “the cars”– updated March 2014

VS2 and NAC-SRCC welcomes all Sports 2000’s from vintage to present.

Today, VS2  (Vintage Sports 2000) and NAC-SRCC (North American Chapter of the Sports Racing Car Club) announced its merger creating the largest, single class, amateur-racing organization in the country. With roughly 85 members, SRCC and VS2’s dedicated Sports 2000 organization are continuing the heritage of the Sports 2000 class and reinvigorating the attendance and field sizes of this dynamic, unique class.  This year VS2 held the largest 2013 Sports 2000 event in the country at historic Watkins Glen in September with 25 entries–followed two weeks later by over 20 cars at SRCC’s season finale at VIR. The SRCC brings its strong membership base across the Mid West and South East to combine with VS2’s dominant presence in the North East.  We are excited to combine the best of both organizations while continuing the Sports 2000 tradition of exciting racing with the spirit of competition and camaraderie. This merger allows us to continue the mission of creating the best race environment for all Sports 2000 drivers and increase the field sizes of our races.  The merged club will be named Vintage Sports 2000 North America or VS2na.

As we look forward to announcing the 2014 schedule, we expect to see the largest fields Sports 2000 has seen since its Pro-Series days.  “We have lined up over $25,000 in sponsor prizes and awards to be given away at our signature events,” reports Dennis Gernert, Board Member & Chief Sponsor Director.  VS2 saw sponsorship of the series increase significantly during 2013, with 16 sponsors, including: Hoosier Tires, Pegasus Auto Racing, Tilton Racing Products, Taylor Race Engineering, Quicksilver Race Engines, Accurate Machine, Eric Langbein consulting, P.E.D. Products Action Cam Products, G-Force Racing Gear, Shock and Yaw, West View Investment Advisors, Carboteck Brake Pads, Krause and Associates Aime Data Collection System, Fast Forward Racing Components, Castrol Oil, Motor Sports Composits. SRCC-NA continues its strong relationship with Sasco Sports providing tires and club shirts and Transatlantic Parts as the title sponsor of the season long Transatlantic Cup trophy series.

About Sports 2000

Sports 2000 is a restricted-rules class of two-seat, rear-engine, open-cockpit, full-bodied sports-prototype racecar used largely in road racing. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, professional Sports 2000 racing was prevalent. One such series was the American Cities Racing League (ACRL) where the teams represented cities around the country. Rather than individual drivers running for the championship, the two team drivers earned points for their sponsor city, a concept revived for the A1GP, where teams represent countries rather than cities. Another professional series was the North American Pro Series or NAPS, which visited many of the classic road race circuits in the U.S. and was often a support race for IMSA weekends. Later this series became the Oldsmobile Pro Series.

About VS2

The organization was formed in February of 2005 to support and promote Sports 2000 racing in the Northeast, Midwest, and eastern Canada called Vintage Sports 2000 Racing (VS2).  Our goal is to expand the scope and availability of S2 racing venues and attract more drivers to the great sport of S2 racing.  VS2 recognizes 3 classes, welcoming all Sports 2000’s from vintage to current models of S2’s for our championship and contingency awards.

The NAC-SRCC is the recognized North American branch of the parent S2 club in England and was founded by Vaughn Rockney, who was also a member of a similar social organization, Monoposto Racing.     Rockney had a Lola T-492 and wanted to race at a place where people celebrated the history and significance of the car over pure driving prowess or were focused purely on performance.  As a part of this founding principle, the NAC-SRCC created and maintains a web site listing car classes, modification rules, member want ads, event reports and pictures—all focused on increasing the enjoyment of owning an S2.
